Big Daddy Love

Trudging through the dark and wet halls of the fallen city, with half his mind on the whereabouts of his Little Sister and the other half miles away, the Big Daddy was feeling nothing but despair. When he was designed his only role was to protect his assigned Little Sister. Little did his creators know that their creation may develop feelings and want to do other things. Despite his sullen mood, he marched on down the hall, keeping an ear out for his little companion. He eventually found her, squatting over a corpse and stabbing it with a syringe. The syringe filled with plasma like substance that was genetically modified cells, a treat for the Little Sister.
“Look Mr Bubbles” she said excitedly. A whole eyeball was balancing on the top of the syringe’s needle. She chuckled sweetly to express her amusement before swallowing the eyeball whole, followed by the contents of the syringe. On most days, the Big Daddy would have laughed along. But he was too depressed on this day. He let his emotions get the better of him. He loved his Little Sister. There was only her in his life, or so he thought. That was before he met her. He had caught a glimpse of the most beautiful splicer he had ever seen. She was crouched on an overturned table in one of the many abandoned offices. On this particular night the moon reflected a powerful beam of light directly onto that room’s full wall windows, making everything shimmer and shine. Nothing shone as magnificently as her. Her half burnt hair seemed to be caressed by the moon beams. Her half chewed lips seemed to long for romance. The mucus plastered on her cheeks symbolised years of searching for someone. And her malicious eyes were soft and welcoming to the Big Daddy. And even as she screamed “Bastard!” towards the Big Daddy and retreated further into the labyrinth that is the underground city, the shrill of her croaky voice and the spider like movement of her limbs excited him. While any human will hold some doubts about the beauty of this creature, the Big Daddy was in love. The problem arises with his Little Sisters. The Big Daddy is fully aware that his purpose in life is to protect the Little Sister from those who want to extract the genetically modified liquid from there tiny bodies. This means splicers as well. But as much as the Big Daddy loved his little companion, he could not stop thinking about his little Romeo and Juliet experience. Every time he heard a scuffle in the next room he’d break down the walls in anticipation of meeting her again. Alas, it was always just another splicer, and the joy of punctuating its body with the massive drill attached to his arm was never felt by the poor Big Daddy. The Big Daddy soon realised that his little companion had run off again as he was musing. Suddenly, he heard her little scream from down the corridor. At a speed you wouldn’t think was possible, the Big Daddy barged down the corridor and into the reception room at the end. There was the little sister, cowering under a splicer. But just not any splicer, it was his splicer. Realising that she had been intruded upon, she swerved around. The sight of the Big Daddy made her curse and she began looking for escape routes, for a fight with a Big Daddy meant certain death for a splicer. But unknown to her, the Big Daddy had no intentions of harming her. He had finally found her and now can tell her how much she meant to him. The splicer had other ideas. Seeing that capture was inevitable she turned onto the Little Sister. If she was going to die, she was going to at least enjoy the few moments of life she had left. She grabbed the Little Sister. The little creature’s screams kicked in the Big Daddy’s instincts. He started to heave and pound the ground, but to no avail. He grabbed the splicer and held her high in the air, but she held onto the Little Sister, ever slowly bringing her towards her mouth. In a last attempt to save both the things he loved so much, he start pouring out his feeling to the splicer, resulting in nothing but the sound of mechanical gears and clicks. The splicer crackled arrogantly at his attempt of communication, unaware that it was the most heart felt speech he had ever drafted and it was to her. Left with no option, and for the sake of his struggling Little Sister, the Big Daddy took his drill and drove it into the splicers relatively tiny head. The squirts of blood mingled with the oily liquid gushing from his massive helmet, the only way a Big Daddy can cry.
